The end of mørketid, or winter darkness, is a happy celebration. I lived in Kabelvåg in the Lofoten Islands of Norway, above the Arctic Circle. From the 6th of December to the 7th of January the sun remained below the horizon.
The return of the sunlight was a very welcome one. We watched the sunrise with our internat, Trudvang. We played music, ate lunch and just enjoyed being in each other's company.
Christmas I spend in Oslo, where we could still enjoy the sun. It was my first Christmas away from home, since I wasn't able to return due to Corona restrictions. I witnessed my first Norwegian Christmas and it was magical! The darkest months were for me absolutely the coziest.
